Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For, after all, a princess is a delicate thing.
Throughout this production students will gain skills in theatre performance, teamwork, empathy, and leadership.

Homeschool Productions uses a play as the context for broader learning. In addition to putting on a show, students will learn deeply about the setting of the play—its history, culture, geography, and technology. Theatre becomes a conduit for learning other subjects like Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Engineering, and Technology. Through lessons and various hands-on projects, including designing and creating props, costumes, set pieces, and other technical elements of theatre, students experience the breadth and reach of these subjects in a real-world context. Curriculum will be designed around the class as a whole, with activities designed to meet the students at their ability/age levels to challenge and help each student to grow.

In The Knight at Dawn students will explore through music, theatre, history, and more to gain a deeper understanding of the stories context and message, as well as all that goes in to creating a live theatrical experience. Younger students can learn the basics of performing, and stretch those skills, while older students will have opportunities to help the production in leadership roles as well as participate in the performance. This is sure to be a fun and exhilarating experience for home school students of all ages.
